Our Goals
Supporting the Community
We aim to improve the lives of black communities across demographics, intersections, and needs by creating and supporting systems of care outside capitalist structures. We aim to build and work with existing reciprocal exchanges of resources and services for mutual benefit, or mutual aid.
Among the efforts we work in this vein are clothing giveaways, hot food giveaways, free grocery and produce distributions, tree plot data collection for tree planting with the Park Department, and hygiene product donations.
Collaborators
Among the mutual aid organizations we’ve partnered with are Bedstuy Strong, Brooklyn Grange, Cleanup Crown Heights, Collective Focus, Crown Heights Mutual Aid, Compassion Prison Project, EndQINY, Gotham Food Pantry, We Are Not Afraid, Ourfood NYC, STEPS to End Family Violence, The NYC Community Fridge Network, Collective Focus Resource Hub, Riders for Black Lives and The Gym.
March Partners include Blasian March, The Stonewall Protests, UniteNY2020, Black Women’s March, BREATHE, and MBR Cycling.
What we’ve been up to:
Monthly Community Giveback Days
Since April of 2021, we have been hosting monthly Community Giveback Days on the first Saturday of every month. Come join us next month from 12-3pm at Fulton Plaza, Malcolm X and Fulton St. in BedStuy. Come by for free food, clothing, groceries and more!
These days are meant for spending a beautiful day together, giving back to our neighbors and getting to know one another. Keep an eye out on our IG + FB for event announcements. Hope to see you there!
Cleaning up the neighborhood, our way
When the city cut funding for trash cleanup during the pandemic, our most vulnerable neighborhoods took the hit. To counter this, we often do weekend morning cleanups with our Partners Bedstuy Strong and Cleanup Crown Heights. All you need to bring are some gloves and a friend!
Black History Rides
Calling all friends on wheels! We host educational Black History Rides in New York City, in which we take a tour of some of the city’s historically black and culturally significant locations. Keep an eye out on our events calendar for the next ride!
Hygiene Product Drive for STEPS
In February of 2021, we partnered with STEPS to End Family Violence to collect donations for the womxn and families that they work with. We had a great turnout and collected so many generous donations from our neighbors, including period products, diapers, hair care, toothbrushes + toothpaste, backpacks, soap, and more. We were also about to raise over $400.00 to donate to STEPS. We are so thankful. This is what community looks like!
Securing a Community Fridge
This spring, we were very lucky to secure a fridge donation after one of our Giveback Days. This fridge was then taken to our friends at Collective Focus Resource Hub, where it lives there with their other fridges! They painted and fixed it up, and now it serves the people of Bushwick and Bedstuy. Check it out at 1046 Broadway, Brooklyn.
